Every strong Taproot Plus engagement starts with clear expectations. That's why nonprofits and pro bono consultants agree to our Community Agreements when they post an opportunity or apply to one. They're more than checkboxes. They're a shared commitment to show up prepared, communicate openly, and treat each other with respect.
What pro bono consultants agree to
When you apply to a project or session, you confirm that you'll:
Bring professional experience in the topic area and feel confident sharing your expertise.
Attend scheduled calls, or give advance notice if you need to reschedule.
Treat nonprofit partners and Taproot staff with respect, kindness, and open-mindedness.
What nonprofits agree to
When you post an opportunity, you confirm that you'll:
Be ready to start the project or session right away, with a clear goal in mind.
Respond promptly to applications and messages from pro bono consultants.
Lead the work directly and serve as the main point of contact.
Respect the format: sessions are one-hour advisory calls, and projects involve longer-term deliverables.
Keep the work focused on the original scope, and post a new opportunity if new priorities come up.
Treat pro bono consultants and Taproot staff with respect, kindness, and open-mindedness.
Why these agreements matter
Pro bono service works best as a partnership between equals. Nonprofits bring deep knowledge of their mission and community, and consultants bring specialized expertise. When both sides commit to clear communication and shared expectations, the work goes further.
We ask everyone to bring the same care and professionalism they'd bring to any paid engagement. That means honest feedback, timely communication, and respect for each other's time and effort.
If you feel a partner isn't upholding the Community Agreements, email our team at help@taprootplus.org. We'll follow up so every engagement stays built on trust and respect.
