Community Agreements on Taproot Plus

Learn how we create a shared understanding of commitment to help users collaborate with trust and respect.

Last updated on 20 Mar, 2026

Every successful Taproot Plus engagement begins with clear expectations. That’s why we ask both volunteers and nonprofits to agree to a set of Community Agreements when they submit an application or support request. These agreements aren’t just checkboxes—they’re a shared understanding that helps everyone show up prepared, communicate openly, and treat one another with respect.

What Volunteers Agree To

When volunteers apply to a project or session, they confirm that:

  • They have professional experience in the topic area and feel confident sharing their expertise.

  • They’ll attend scheduled sessions or give advance notice if they need to reschedule.

  • They’ll treat Taproot nonprofit partners and staff with respect, kindness, and open-mindedness

These agreements help volunteers show up as strong, reliable partners ready to make a meaningful contribution.

What Nonprofits Agree To

When nonprofits request support, they confirm that:

  • They’ll have a clear need and are ready to begin the project or session immediately.

  • They’ll respond promptly to volunteer applications and communications.

  • They’ll lead the work directly and serve as the main point of contact.

  • They’ll respect the format—sessions are one-hour advisory calls; projects involve longer-term deliverables.

  • They’ll keep the work focused on the original request and submit a new one if additional needs arise.

  • They’ll treat Taproot volunteers and staff with respect, kindness, and open-mindedness.

These agreements help nonprofits create a positive, productive experience for their volunteer partners.

Why These Agreements Matter

Taproot Plus is built on the belief that pro bono work should be a mutual partnership. Volunteers and nonprofits each bring valuable expertise—and when both sides commit to clear communication and shared expectations, great things happen.

We ask everyone to treat pro bono engagements with the same care and professionalism they would a paid project. That means:

  • Honest feedback

  • Timely communication

  • Respect for time and effort

If you ever feel that a partner isn’t upholding the Community Agreements, please reach out to us at help@taprootplus.org. We’re here to support you and ensure every Taproot Plus experience is built on trust and respect.
