How Do I Request a Project on Taproot Plus?

Tips for describing your nonprofit’s need and creating a strong Project request.

Last updated on 13 Aug, 2026

On Taproot Plus, we connect your organization with skilled professionals ready to put their expertise to work. One way we do this is through Projects: short-term pro bono partnerships built around one concrete deliverable. Through a Project, you'll work with a consultant over 2-12 weeks to move a specific piece of your organization's work forward.

When creating a Project, the request form focuses on two key questions:

What challenge or opportunity are you seeking support for?

Tell us what your organization is working through and why support would be helpful. Focus on the need rather than jumping straight to a solution. Include any relevant context that will help a consultant understand what you’re trying to address.

What would you like a pro bono consultant to accomplish by the end of the Project?

Describe the specific deliverable or outcome you’d like to have at the end of the engagement. This could be something like a strategic plan, communications toolkit, financial model, or another tangible resource your organization can put to use.

Tips for a Strong Project Request

Start with the challenge or opportunity, not the solution.

Help consultants understand what your organization is trying to address and what may be getting in the way.

Be specific about the deliverable.

A focused, tangible outcome gives you and your consultant a shared understanding of what you’ll work toward together.

Keep the scope realistic.

Projects are designed for one pro bono consultant to complete over 2–12 weeks with up to five hours of consultant time per week. Focus on one primary need and a manageable deliverable rather than combining several into one Project.

You Don’t Need to Have Everything Figured Out

Your request doesn’t need to be perfect. Share enough for a pro bono consultant to understand what you need and what you want to accomplish. We review every request before publishing and will reach out if anything needs adjusting.

Questions along the way? Reach out to us at help@taprootplus.org. We’re happy to help you shape a Project that works for your organization.
