I Applied for a Project – What Happens Next?

Learn how nonprofits review applications and what to expect as you move toward a potential match

Last updated on 04 Dec, 2025

Once you submit your application for a Project, the nonprofit will review your statement of interest, LinkedIn profile, and resume (if provided). If they would like to connect, they will propose a few times to meet for a 30-minute screening call.

The screening call gives you and the nonprofit a chance to explore the project in more detail, align on expectations, and decide whether it feels like the right fit before moving forward.

After the call:

  • If you and the nonprofit agree it is a match, the nonprofit will accept your application and mark the Project as matched, and your work together can begin. At this stage, you will also agree on how you plan to communicate and how often you will check in.

  • If the nonprofit decides to move forward with another volunteer, Taproot will notify you as soon as possible. We encourage you to keep exploring other open opportunities that align with your skills and interests. Many nonprofits are eager to connect.

If you have questions about the process or would like help finding volunteer opportunities, reach out to us at help@taprootplus.org. We are here to support you throughout your volunteer journey.
