What is the difference between a project and a session?

Learn about the two types of pro bono support on Taproot Plus so you can choose the best fit for your needs.

Last updated on 29 Oct, 2026

Taproot Plus offers two options for on-demand pro bono support: Sessions and Projects. Both connect you with a skilled pro bono consultant who has expertise in marketing, tech, HR, operations, business strategy, or finance. The right choice depends on what you need and how much time you have.

Sessions

Sessions are one-hour virtual consultation calls with a pro bono consultant on a specific question. Submit a Session request if you’re looking for:

  • Brainstorming support

  • Quick problem-solving

  • Advice as you prepare for a large-scale initiative

  • A neutral third-party perspective on a challenging question

Many nonprofits use Sessions to clarify their goals or outline next steps before launching a larger Project.

Projects

Projects are short-term partnerships between you and a pro bono consultant to complete a focused, concrete deliverable, such as a new marketing plan, HR handbook, or updated website content. Projects typically last 2 to 10 weeks, with your consultant donating 2 to 5 hours per week.

Submit a Project request if you have:

  • A specific deliverable or goal you can tackle in 2 to 10 weeks

  • Time to share feedback with your consultant as they shape the deliverable

  • The materials your consultant will need to complete the Project successfully
