When you create a Taproot Plus Session, your goal is to connect with the right volunteer for your brainstorming, problem-solving, or project-planning questions. And, to maximize your chances of matching with a pro bono consultant who is a great fit for your need, keep these tips in mind:
Begin by identifying a key challenge or question that you need advice on. Try to focus that question on a specific business area, such as Marketing and Communications, Business Strategy, or Finance. This will help attract volunteers with the appropriate expertise while not being so broad as to scare folks away.
When making your Session listing, be clear and concise in your description of the challenge or question. We’ve found that starting your description with the specific need and required skill set tends to be most effective. Here’s an example: “We're seeking a skilled marketing volunteer to brainstorm creative ways to increase engagement and provide feedback on our current event marketing process." This will help potential volunteers understand what you need and decide if they are the right fit for the consultation.
Capture the attention of volunteers by highlighting how the advice gathered through this Session will impact your mission. Volunteers are motivated by making a difference with causes they care about, so make it easy for folks to understand your cause. Keep in mind that you don’t need to share your mission statement! That information will automatically be listed on your Taproot Plus listing.
Remember, you can make multiple Session requests, so don't be afraid to reach out for help on different topics. Check out our Session topic ideas for inspiration.
